Do IITians help India.......

I was moved by our President’s speech, in which he says that the IITians are not contributing for the upcoming of our nation. This was the same thought which I was having in my mind from a long time, and I started thinking about it more after seeing the movie swades… and today my thought has been triggered again by Dr.Kalam’s speech at the IIT alumni meeting. Yeah it’s true that the vision of Nehru in establishing IITs across the nation was for the development of the nation with intelligent youth from IITs. A lot of money has been invested by the government of India for the development of the institutions, so why do the graduates work abroad rather than working for the nation. Even though President Kalam is not a graduate of IIT he has worked for the development of the nation with his contribution to space and research program of India, but how many people do you think get such an opportunity to show their intelligence? If a graduate from an esteemed institute of the nation is given a job to look after a research lab rather than letting him contribute something for the research, do you think that he is not contributing to the country?
Everybody today speaks about the prosperous stories of IITians who have established themselves in the silicon valley of US, but does anyone talk about the graduates of the same institute who have many such successful stories in India. I respect our President, but why doesn’t Dr. Kalam say the same thing to big companies and the government to provide opportunities to the graduates of such institutes, so that they can stay in the country. I read somewhere an IIT graduate saying that the institute has not changed even a bit right from the time he graduated till the time his daughter came to study at the same institute, changed means in the sense of development. Many say IIT graduates are running after money, but why doesn’t any body see it the other way, the kind of job they are being offered in India and abroad, the kind of facilities being provided in India and abroad for research, the kind of entrepreneur exposure they get. Everybody speak about 25000 of IIT graduates are in US, when there are around 1.28 lac graduates from IITs, why someone doesn’t talk about the remaining 1lac graduates? There has been many students not only from IIT but from IIMs who have rejected offers of a lifetime from international companies to stay back in the country and develop their own business, but how many people do you think can afford their own business? Why someone doesn’t talk about all those NRIs who are returning to India, to establish themselves, after staying abroad for more than a decade? But how much is the government and bureaucrats providing them with facilities and opportunities.
Very few people dream of staying in a foreign land, away from their motherland and away from their roots, it all depends on family situations, opportunities, exposure and facilities. May be someday everyone would come back to India as sharukh in swades...May be the government should take some firm steps for providing opportunities for these graduates.

Relief takes a lot of time to come....

I was watching a documentary last night, which was dealing with the lives of post tsunami in India. Although it has been 2 years that the disaster has stuck the world, in India, the government has not taken any steps to face these disasters in future. There was an interview with an official about the warning systems that have been setup for future use in the costal areas and he says that they have set up a warning system through SMS and nothing else … whaooooo it has taken 2 years for the Indian government to setup an SMS warning system, that’s a lot of time and how many fisher man do you thing carry a cell phone? The Kerala government has come up with a 100 crores package with a relief amount of 1 Lakh for each family who lost their loved ones in the disaster. Wow that’s a gr8 news, but don’t you think that it’s been too early (just after 2 years) for the government to release a relief package? Now the government would ask the families to prove that the person really died in Tsunami….to give them the money, rather than sharing their grief, they would make a fresh wound. Nobody really knows how much of this money really goes to the needy. More than half of it would go into some minister’s hand which would definitely help him to buy a big house. It may be Tsunami or earthquake in Kashmir or bomb blast in Mumbai trains, or anything the government has always been slow to respond. It may not be only a disaster, but anything take it from giving a statement against China or Pakistan, take it a murder trail of Jessica Lal, take it the mercy petition of Afzal, the government has been always slow….
Whaooooo… it has been a lot of government bashing, even though I am apolitical, sometimes it really hurts to see such news. You help a person whom you don’t even know, but the public is their vote bank, whom the parties and politicians know very well, but cannot come for their help when something happens to them? I don’t want to say that it would never change, but may be some of the rules should be changed for the betterment of the country.
Anyway guys its time for me to go and have my lunch, wanted to have a pleasant topic as my first blog , but this news just triggered me to write something. Even though it doesn’t change the government it makes me feel good to write something about how I feel.
